SEC head promises ‘great advantages’ in third crypto roundtable.
After being inaugurated in as US Securities and Exchange Commission head, Paul Atkins spoke at the agency’s third crypto regulatory roundtable.
Atkins claimed blockchain technology will provide “huge benefits” in efficiency, risk mitigation, transparency, and cost savings at the April 25 “Know Your Custodian” discussion. He said the SEC under previous head Gary Gensler had created market and regulatory confusion, so he would work to establish “clear regulatory rules of the road” for digital assets.
Atkins stated, “I look forward to engaging with market participants and working with colleagues in President Trump’s administration and Congress to establish a rational for-purpose framework for crypto assets.”
Trump’s appointment of Atkins to head the SEC is seen by some opponents as a gesture to the crypto business, executing on campaign pledges to remove Gensler, who resigned the day Trump took office, and reduce regulation. Democratic Senators on the Banking Committee questioned Atkins’ business links, which might contradict with his crypto regulation.
Circle executive denies US banking license interest.
A Circle CEO refuted claims that the corporation wants a US federal bank license.
Dante Disparte, Circle’s chief strategy officer and director of worldwide policy, disputed that the business wants a US federal bank license or an insured depository institution in an April 25 X post.
Instead, Circle plans to file for a federal or state trust charter or other nonbank license to comply with future US payment stablecoin regulations. He also advised lawmakers to clarify stablecoin regulations immediately.
Leading cryptocurrency businesses like Circle and BitGo were contemplating bank charters or licenses, according to recent reports. Paxos and Coinbase, a publicly listed US crypto exchange, also sought licenses.
ARK Invest predicts the 2030 Bitcoin bull case is $2.4 million.
ARK Invest, led by Cathie Wood, upped its Bitcoin BTC price prediction from $1.5 million to $2.4 million by 2030, citing institutional investor interest and Bitcoin’s growing status as “digital gold.”
It also raised its Bitcoin “bear” and “base” case scenarios to $500,000 and $1.2 million from $300,000 and $710,000 in February.
David Puell, an analyst at ARK, said, “Institutional investment contributes the most to our bull case.” Under ideal circumstances, Bitcoin would reach a 6.5% penetration rate into the $200 trillion financial sector, excluding gold.
